Livermore's Casie Cathrea shot a 67 Tuesday for a two-day total of 144, good for a tie for 16th, nine strokes behind the leader in stroke-play qualifying at the U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championship in Charleston, S.C.

Cathrea advances to Wednesday's match play, as does Oakland's Grace Na, who tied for 22nd after shooting a 70 for a 145 total.

With the 36 holes of stroke play completed, the event moves on to six rounds of match play, with the championship scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final Sunday.

Wednesday, Cathrea opens match play out the upper bracket, facing Sophia Popov of Germany. In the lower bracket, Na meets Megan Khang of Rockland, Mass.

Yumi Matsubara of Japan carded a championship-record 7-under-par 64 in taking stroke-play medalist honors at 7-under 135.

Haley Andreas of Pacific Grove (78-73--151), Lucy Li of Redwood Shores (82-70--152), Mariko Tumangan of San Jose (76-76--152) and Anna Zhou of Palo Alto (80-77--157) failed to qualify for match play.

Baseball

St. Francis High catcher Tim Susnara is among 36 players who have been selected to play in the Under Armour All-America game Aug. 24 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

The game, which will be telecast live at 11:30 a.m. PDT on the MLB Network, will be the culmination of a four-day event that includes a home run derby and formal workouts for major league scouts. Over the past five years, 118 of the 138 draft-eligible players from the Under Armour All-America game were selected in major league baseball's amateur draft, including 34 first-round picks.

  • Belmont Redwood Shores is undefeated in pool play at the Little League Western Regional in San Bernardino.

    Belmont Redwood Shores opened Friday with an 8-0 victory over Arizona, then defeated Hawaii 5-0 on Sunday. On Monday, Belmont Redwood Shores beat Utah 13-3 in five innings by mercy rule. Its next game is against Southern California at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

    The top four teams in pool play advance to the semifinals Friday. The regional championship game is Saturday. The regional winner advances to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
