Dodgers 4, Cubs 0: Manager Don Mattingly pulled Yasiel Puig out of the game after four innings, and they met with general manager Ned Colletti behind closed doors after Los Angeles' victory. Mattingly wouldn't specify exactly why he pulled Puig for Skip Schumaker, saying only, "I felt I was going to get a better effort out of Skip."
Puig didn't slide into second base to try to break up a double play in the first inning and slammed his bat after striking out in the third.
"I wanted to finish the game, but I agreed with the explanation," Puig said through a translator. "The meeting went well. We talked about what every player needs to do to prepare for every pitch."
Rangers 12, Mariners 4: Leonys Martin homered and drove in four runs as Texas roughed up Felix Hernandez in a rout of Seattle. Hernandez allowed nine runs and 11 hits in three-plus innings.
Red Sox 4, Orioles 3: Pinch hitter Mike Carp's bloop single to left in the eighth inning scored Jarrod Saltalamacchia from second base with the tiebreaking run as Boston beat Baltimore. The Orioles' Chris Davis hit his 47th home run.
Pirates 7, Brewers 1: Marlon Byrd hit a three-run homer in his first game with Pittsburgh after being acquired a day earlier in a trade with the New York Mets.
