Tickets are on sale for the fifth annual Piedmont High School Boosters Club's Highlander Classic Golf and Tennis Tournament on Oct. 15 at the Claremont Country Club.

The popular event begins with lunch on the terrace at 11 a.m., followed by your choice of golf or tennis at noon. The day concludes with a silent auction and awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m.

The event is open to the entire community. Go to http://boostersgolfandtennis2012.eventbrite.com for ticket information.

Proceeds from the Highlander Classic will go to the Boosters Club, which provides grants for equipment and special programs for all athletic teams and the Pep Band at Piedmont High School. More than 75 percent of Piedmont and Millennium high school students participate on more than 40 athletic teams. Piedmont High's Boosters is a 501(c)3 nonprofit public benefit corporation and is entirely run by volunteers.

This year's Highlander Classic honorary chair is Dr. John Whalen. Whalen is a graduate of Wildwood Elementary School, Piedmont Middle School, Piedmont High School, Stanford University and McGill University Medical School.

While at Piedmont High, he was an Optimo (MVP) Award winner in basketball and track and field.
