Harvest Festival panel seeks new members
The Piedmont Harvest Festival committee is accepting applications for new members to help with the popular event on Sept. 29.
Each year the citywide event features booths, homegrown fruits, vegetables, preserves and other goodies from home kitchens and gardens. Prizes are awarded in several categories during the fun day.

Decibelles to perform free community concert
The Decibelles, a small, eclectic women's vocal ensemble, will be presenting a free community concert at the Oakland Chapel of the Chimes at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Directed by Cava Menzies, the Decibelles is an auditioned chorus of singers whose repertoire includes pop, oldies, standards, jazz, folk and more.
Menzies' musical talents extend from collaborations with various jazz, Latin, soul and hip-hop artists to film documentaries. She chairs and directs the vocal music department at the Oakland School for the Arts.
Enjoy music by Billy Strayhorn, Paul Simon, Curtis Mayfield, John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and more at the large chapel at 4499 Piedmont Ave.
While no admission is being charged, patrons are encouraged to donate to First Place for Youth, an organization that helps foster youth build the skills they need to make a successful transition to self-sufficiency and responsible adulthood. For information visit www.FirstPlaceForYouth.com.

PBF announces matching Shapiro fund challenge
The Piedmont Beautification Foundation spring newsletter announces a matching fund challenge.
Donate now and your contribution toward the Shapiro Endowment Fund will automatically be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $50,000 before Dec. 31, 2014.
This generous donation by PBF advisor Hort. Shapiro and his daughters, Katie Harmon and Emily Johnson, was established in memory of Betty Shapiro, wife and mother and grandmother.
Betty Shapiro's outstanding contributions and commitment to PBF and the city of Piedmont inspired this matching fund challenge. Your donation will help to generate and grow sufficient funds to support the ongoing partnership of PBF and the city of Piedmont.
Tax deductible checks may be made payable to PBF and mailed or hand delivered to Piedmont Beautification Foundation, Piedmont City Hall, 120 Vista Ave., Piedmont, CA 94611.

Homeowners can apply for parcel tax exemption
Homeowners who reside in Piedmont and qualify for Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI) are eligible to apply for an exemption to the recently passed Measure A school parcel tax.
You must apply in person or by mail to the Office of the Superintendent, Piedmont Unified School District, 760 Magnolia Ave., Piedmont, CA 94611.
Homeowners must submit proof of their SSI in the form of their annual notification of eligibility sent by the Social Security Administration.
Deadline to apply for application for the 2013-14 fiscal year is 4 p.m. on July 1. For any questions, contact assistant to school superintendent at 510-594-2614.
