Stanford career RUSHING yardage leaders

Darrin Nelson: 4,169 yards 1977-78, 80-81 -- The senior associate athletic director at UC Irvine brought a ground game to Quarterback U.

Stepfan Taylor: 3,992 yards 2009-current -- Few figured Taylor could replace, much less surpass, Toby Gerhart. He's now 178 yards from becoming the Cardinal's all-time rushing leader.

Toby Gerhart: 3,522 yards 2006-09 -- The Minnesota Vikings' backup smashed through would-be tacklers on his way to a stellar career.

Brad Muster: 2,940 yards 1984-87 -- Star rusher in the 1980s now is a golf coach at Santa Rosa College.

Anthony Bookman: 2,523 yards 1994-97 -- Found success while playing for coaches Bill Walsh and Tyrone Willingham.

Note: Stanford's sports information department has recalculated Darrin Nelson's career rushing total to include bowl-game statistics that it had not previously included. Therefore, the yardage that Stepfan Taylor needs to tie the school career record is 177, not 41.
