Five who flashed

Five players who had had good days on the Raiders' first practice of training camp:

  • Wide receiver Rod Streater, an undrafted free agent, continued his solid work from organized team activities and minicamps.

  • Cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke broke up two passes as the starting left cornerback in place of Ron Bartell, who did not practice.

  • Strong safety Mike Mitchell, out for the entire offseason, broke up a pass intended for Richard Gordon and also took the place Rock Cartwright as the personal protector on Raiders' punts.

  • Fullback Marcel Reece caught several passes out of the backfield. If the first practice is any indication, the new offense suits him.

  • Cornerback Pat Lee broke up a pass that was interception on a deflection by Chimdi Chekwa.
