ALAMEDA -- Cornerback Ron Bartell was back on the field, and the news regarding injuries was generally good Wednesday as the Raiders began preparations to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bartell said he had a ways to go, and he isn't eligible to play until Nov. 11 against Baltimore. Coach Dennis Allen said conditioning, and not the broken left shoulder blade Bartell sustained in the season opener, was the primary issue in his return.
"I'm well enough. The thing is, at this point in the season, nobody's 100 percent," Bartell said. "I'm good enough to play. The shoulder is not a concern. I just need to get back in shape and sharpen things up and go from there."
The Raiders have 21 days to either put Bartell on the 53-man roster or on injured reserve for the rest of the season. After he was injured in Week 1, Bartell was placed on the "designated for return" injured reserve, a category that was introduced this season.
"The rule worked out perfect for me," Bartell said. "I'm happy to be back, happy to be able to contribute. I just really want to give the offense a great look (in practice) so we can get a win this weekend."
Linebacker Aaron Curry practiced for the seventh consecutive day, but he remains on the physically unable to perform list, and there was no indication from Allen if he will be placed on the 53-man roster for the Bucs game.
"We have to make the decision that is best for the team as well as, listen, he hasn't played football in a long time," Allen said. "It's not like you can just come out and start playing football after a week or two and everything is fine and good."
Cornerback Shawntae Spencer, out since Week 2 because of a foot injury, has not made progress of late.
"We anticipated there would be more progress by this point in time, but it's coming around a little slower than we had hoped," Allen said.
Center Stefen Wisniewski (ankle) and running back Mike Goodson (turf toe) were limited in practice, but Allen expects them to face Tampa Bay. Defensive tackle Richard Seymour (knee) was rested.
Special-teams player Keenan Clayton (shoulder) did not practice, and Allen isn't sure if he will play against the Bucs.
