ALAMEDA -- Media relations director Zak Gilbert, hired by general manager Reggie McKenzie to craft the message of the organization to the public in the post-Al Davis era, was fired Saturday.

Gilbert has been working from home and has not been at the club facility since April 18, the day a Sports Illustrated story was published detailing the state of the franchise under Davis and McKenzie's attempts to modernize the operation.

The story was not well-received by Mark Davis, who took over for his father and hired McKenzie to run the football operation.

Gilbert released a statement thanking Mark Davis for the opportunity and wishing McKenzie and coach Dennis Allen ``nothing but success in a bright future.''
