HAYWARD -- The Newark Memorial High football team rushed for 396 yards and five scores in a 35-7 Mission Valley Athletic League victory over host Moreau Catholic on Friday night.

Newark Memorial's running attack was led by senior running back Franco Napal, who had 193 yards and three touchdowns.

The Cougars (3-3, 1-1) jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead on Napal's 47-yard dash off tackle, followed four minutes later by a three-yard dive that was set up by a recovered Mariners fumble.

Down 29-0 late in the fourth quarter, Moreau Catholic (4-2, 0-2) got on the scoreboard as Dom Fiandor caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lucas O'Rourke.

Newark Memorial continues its MVAL schedule next Friday as it hosts Mission San Jose at 7 p.m. Moreau Catholic has a bye next week before it plays at Washington on Oct. 19.
