DALY CITY — Police arrested a 28-year-old man Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run accident May 6 that killed a Daly City man.
Russell Real of Daly City was arrested Tuesday morning for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit-and-run, Daly City police said. Detective Greg Oglesby saw Real walking on Junipero Serra Boulevard about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and arrested him without incident.
Real told authorities that he was on his way to his attorney's office to surrender when he was arrested.
The fatal crash occurred about 9:30 p.m. May 6. When officers arrived at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue and Oliver Street that night, they found James Allen Martin, 57, inside his silver Dodge pickup.
Martin was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, San Mateo County coroner Robert Foucrault said.
Real, who was driving a white Chevrolet sport utility vehicle, fled the scene of the crash, Capt. Michael Edwards said. The vehicle was found 20 minutes later at a residence a few blocks from the crash.
Police interviewed three people at the home, which led to the issuance of a $250,000 warrant for Real. He fled to Silver Springs, Nev., immediately after the crash, and police were able to contact him there by phone, Edwards said. He told authorities that he would turn himself in when he got his affairs in order.
