Police are looking for suspects in a trio of construction site robberies that netted about $5,000 worth of tools Tuesday night.

Three home remodel projects were targeted between 5:30 p.m. and 7 a.m. on Holly Court, Southdown Road and Redington Road. Robbers cut locks on fences and storage containers to steal expensive saws and a variety of other equipment, police said.

"It is our belief that because of the quantity of tools that were taken and in this time frame, the same suspects were responsible for each of these robberies," said Hillsborough police Commander Mark O'Connor.

The incidents highlight a recurring security concern for unattended construction sites in the area, he said, recalling a series of similar robberies a few years ago for which suspects from Richmond and Hercules were arrested.

Many contractors have resorted to using security cameras and motion sensing lights on their projects even though the town discourages contractors from leaving tools on construction sites over night.

Some easy tips for avoiding theft or getting stolen equipment back after its taken are to mark tools with distinctive spray paint colors and keep a current photographic inventory of them.
