SAN BRUNO —— Residents got overwhelmingly behind a push to force travelers to pay a higher tax rate on hotel rooms.

With 26 of 26 precincts reporting Tuesday night, 70.1 percent of voters have approved Measure F, increasing San Bruno's hotel tax from 10 to 12 percent.

City officials have argued that the small increase will mean a stable source of revenue for a city that has been hit hard by bad economic times. San Bruno had to cut unfilled positions and institute furlough days as part of a plan to close its $2.5 million budget gap.
