HILLSBOROUGH — An incumbent regained her seat on the Hillsborough City School District board during Tuesday's election, while two newcomers will join her.
Trustee Mary Ellen Benninger, the lone incumbent in the five-candidate race, won 30.8 percent of the vote. Her new colleagues on the board will be finance professional Steven Koury and attorney Lynne Esselstein, who received 29.6 and 25.4 percent, respectively.
Losing in their bid for the board were software architect Steven Gans and physician Pearl Wu.
Benninger said during the campaign that she had the most insight into district matters among the candidates, having served on the board for a term.
"I know I can continue to contribute to this school district," Benninger said before the election, "and I'm the only candidate who can offer continuity and experience."
