The Padres beat Riordan 14-6 to advance to today's 7 p.m. WCAL title game at Santa Clara University against Bellarmine, a 7-6 upset winner over Valley Christian. Serra has already defeated the Bells four times this season and outscored them 30-2.
Against Riordan, Serra (24-6) built a 7-0 lead after three innings. Zack Turner had a two-run single in the second. Tony Renda had a two-out, two-run single in the third.
Danny Chavez went four innings, retiring 11 in a row at one point, to get the win.
After Riordan pulled within 7-4, Serra scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.
Ryan Palermo hit a double, scored three times and had three RBIs. Ian Tolle also had three RBIs.
Tennis
LOS GATOS Sacred Heart Prep defeated Bellarmine 5-2, and Menlo School lost to Saratoga 4-3 in Central Coast Section team tennis semifinals at the Courtside Club.
The Gators will play Saratoga for the CCS championship Friday at 2 p.m. at Courtside.
Seniors Jamie Hutter, Erik Blumenkranz and Billy McCall helped the Gators avenge a loss to Bellarmine in last year's CCS semifinals. All three reeled in victories, along with key wins by freshman No.3 singles player Andrew Malozak and a win in No.1 doubles by the junior team of John Parsons and John Hansen.

"I really got my serve rolling today," Hutter said. "It's nice to peak at the right time of the season."
Menlo received wins from Daniel Hoffman at No.2 singles, Max Glenn at No.3 singles and Patrick Chase at No.4 singles, but was swept in doubles.
Wrestling
SAN MATEO The Serra wrestling team and Padre Wrestling Club is hosting a team from New Zealand.
The Kiwis arrived Wednesday and are staying with host families. They are spending the day at Serra and sightseeing in San Francisco today. On Friday a dual meet between the Padre Wrestling Club and the visitors will be held at Serra at 6 p.m.
