SAN BRUNO — The Northern California champion Skyline College badminton team lost to San Diego City College 14-7 in the state championship match Thursday at Skyline.

Maggie Ho provided highlights for Skyline in winning over Amy Tu 21-13, 21-8 and Aenoy Bounsavath 21-9, 21-18 in singles.

The individual portion of the state championships take place today and tomorrow at Skyline.

Ho came in second in the state in singles and placed in the top four in doubles with partner Casey Spinetti. Ho and new partner Keshia Yusman are seeded No.1 in doubles this year.

"Maggie has been the catalyst for us all season long," Skyline coach Jan Fosberg said. She is undefeated in singles and doubles this year and has been really just an inspirational player for Skyline."

Yusman (Westmoor) is the state's fifth-seeded singles player. Spinetti is a Terra Nova grad. Erica Lum (Westmoor) and Spinetti are seeded fifth. Khin Htwe (Westmoor) is part of the second-seeded doubles duo with Bonnie Chan. Gulsha Akoglu (Carlmont) teams with Jenny Cheu as the sixth-seeded doubles tandem.
