NHL OWNERS APPROVE REALIGNMENT
The NHL board of governors on Thursday approved realignment for the 2013-14 season that will send Detroit and Columbus to the Eastern Conference and Winnipeg to the Western Conference. The Western Conference will be made up of two seven-team divisions. The Eastern Conference will have two eight-team divisions.
For the playoffs, eight teams qualify from each conference: the top teams in each division, plus two wild cards based on the two best records of the remaining teams regardless of division.
Names for the divisions are to be determined.
Division A -- Sharks, Anaheim, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Phoenix, Calgary, Edmonton.
Division B -- Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, St. Louis, Chicago, Nashville, Winnipeg,
Division C -- Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Detroit, Buffalo, Boston, Florida, Tampa Bay.
Division D -- N.Y. Rangers, N.Y. Islanders, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, Carolina, Columbus.
