SAN JOSE -- Sharks forward Tomas Hertl expects to be out a month with an injury to his right knee, according to a Czech sports reporter who contacted the 20-year-old player's father.
Roman Jedlicka with TV Nova Sport said that Jaroslav Hertl said his son messaged him with that prognosis immediately after San Jose's 4-1 loss Thursday night to the Los Angeles Kings. Father and son are expected to talk later Friday.
The injury occurred late in the first period after a mid-ice, knee-on-knee hit from Kings captain Dustin Brown, who was given a five-minute major and game misconduct penalties.
Hertl leads all NHL rookies with 15 goals and 24 points. On the Sharks, only Patrick Marleau has more goals with 16.
Jedlicka broke the story using his Twitter account of @jedli and has planned TV coverage as well from Prague.
