SAN JOSE -- Sharks forward Tommy Wingels said Tuesday that he tried twice to get Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown to drop the gloves in Monday night's 1-0 loss, but Brown declined the offer.

"I guess he didn't want to own up to it," Wingels said, referring to the Dec. 19 knee-on-knee collision between Brown and Sharks forward Tomas Hertl that led to what may be season-ending surgery for the San Jose rookie.

In a scrum that led to roughing penalties at 11:53 of the first period for Brent Burns and Kings forward Colin Fraser, Wingels could be seen tugging at Brown's jersey. The other attempt came earlier in the same shift, Wingels said.
