Red Sox 20, Tigers 4: David Ortiz hit two of Boston's eight homers and also doubled for his 2,000th career hit. Will Middlebrooks hit a grand slam and Daniel Nava added a two-run homer in an eight-run sixth inning.

Cardinals 5, Reds 4: Matt Adams homered in the 16th, his second home run in extra innings, to boost St. Louis. Adams was playing in place of Allen Craig, who left the game in the fourth inning after spraining his left foot.

Rays 3, Angels 1: Wil Myers hit two homers off Jered Weaver to boost Tampa Bay.

Yankees 6, White Sox 5: New York's Mariano Rivera earned his first four-out save in more than two years.

Rockies 7, Dodgers 5: Todd Helton homered as Colorado ended Los Angeles' winning streak at six games.

  • The Dodgers scratched Hyun-Jin Ryu (back strain) from his scheduled start Friday at Cincinnati.

    Diamondbacks 4, Blue Jays 3: Willie Bloomquist hit a run-scoring single in the 10th inning as Arizona avoided a three-game sweep.

  • The Blue Jays are shutting down outfielder Jose Bautista for the rest of the season because of a left hip injury. Bautista hit .259 with 28 homers and 73 RBIs.
