The host cities of the 2013 Amgen Tour of California will be named Tuesday according to race organizers, who have scheduled a news conference in Escondido.
San Jose is bidding to remain the only city to have a role in all eight of North America's biggest cycling tours. The 800-mile event is expected to go from San Diego County to the Bay Area -- the first time the course would traverse south to north.
Escondido already has been named the start location for the eight-day tour that runs from May 12-19. But race owners Anschutz Entertainment Group have had to make adjustments as some cities backed out because of financial difficulties based on the economy and the fallout over the Lance Armstrong drug revelations this fall.
