Entering this week, the Monte Vista High boys soccer team held a three-point lead in the East Bay Athletic League standings.

However, it was De La Salle that would end Thursday on top of the EBAL after a 2-1 road victory, the Mustangs' second defeat of the week.

Joey Jones kept up his string of goals, scoring both for the Spartans (10-3-5, 6-1-3 EBAL) to give him five in his last three games.

"I came back from being hurt for three weeks and scored two goals and just got back into it," Jones said. "It feels good to help the team because we had struggles playing as a team early on, but now we're coming together."

Jones' first goal came just seven minutes in as the Mustangs (12-3-4, 6-2-2) couldn't clear a ball in front of the net and Nic Bob was able to head it over to the sophomore.

Jeff Greenberg got the equalizer for Monte Vista in the 24th minute, scoring on a header after a ricochet off the crossbar left the net open for him.

With the Mustangs seeming to be in control of the possession and the pace, the Spartans countered quickly on a long ball. Jones found himself with space in the box and buried a 64th-minute game-winner.

De La Salle goalkeeper Andrew Konstantino was threatened a few of times but rose to the challenge with three fine saves.

San Ramon Valley 4, Foothill 0: Alex Maestre scored two goals as the host Wolves (12-4-2, 6-2-1 EBAL) beat the Falcons (9-4-5, 3-4-3).
