NEW ORLEANS -- Ahmad Brooks and Aldon Smith, the 49ers' starting outside linebackers, were the only players limited Wednesday in the team's first Super Bowl practice at the New Orleans Saints' facility in Metairie.
Both Brooks and Smith are battling left shoulder injuries and both are expected to play in Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, who had no players limited in their first practice.
Brooks said Tuesday he's battling a sprained AC joint, and Smith has been dealing with his ailment for a couple months. Harbaugh declined to confirm the nature of Brooks' injury, telling pool reporter John Clayton of ESPN: "I don't get into what those guys have. If they want to give that information, that's fine. I always feel uncomfortable saying what a player has."
Rain and wind resulted in the 49ers holding practice at the Saints' indoor facility during the 95-minute session.
"We were going to go outside and practice but the winds were a little too much," Harbaugh said. "We were worried about taking the lifts (for team photographers) too high. The winds were 20 to 25 miles an hour and we don't want to send our guys up there in those conditions."
Wednesday's practice involved all aspects of the 49ers' units: offense, defense and special teams.
"I thought our guys were excited to get out here on the practice field," Harbaugh added. "The team understands a lot more about the Super Bowl. But they were excited to get out there on the field and do what they do."
Ten other players participated fully in practice despite their injuries: linebackers NaVorro Bowman (shoulder), Patrick Willis (shoulder) and Clark Haggans (shoulder); cornerback Tarell Brown (shoulder); tight end Garrett Celek (foot); running backs Frank Gore (shoulder, ankle), LaMichael James (finger) and Bruce Miller (shoulder); defensive tackle Justin Smith (elbow, triceps) and left guard Mike Iupati (shoulder).
All 14 players on the Ravens' injury list participated fully in their first practice at Tulane University. Those players are linebackers Ray Lewis (triceps), Dannell Ellerbe (toe, back) and Terrell Suggs (achilles, biceps); cornerbacks Asa Jackson (thigh) and Jimmy Smith (abdomen); running back Bernard Pierce (knee, thigh); fullback Vonta Leach (knee, ankle); defensive ends Albert McClellan (shoulder) and Pernell McPhee (thigh), defensive tackle Haloti Ngata (knee); tight end Dennis Pitta (thigh); wide receivers Tandon Doss (ankle) and David Reed (thigh); and safety Ed Reed (shoulder),
