SANTA CLARA — Coach Jim Harbaugh laughed off any notion that Colin Kaepernick might become complacent after last season's breakthrough as the 49ers starting quarterback.

Speaking to the NFL network at the owners meetings in Arizona, Harbaugh was asked what leads him to believe Kaepernick has 'that fire not to be satisfied.'

"Ha, because I know him," Harbaugh said, followed by another under-his-breath chuckle. "I know him. Satisfied is a word that confuses him, that confuses us, just knowing who he is."

Kaepernick went 7-3 upon replacing Alex Smith as the 49ers' starter last season, including their playoff run that ended with a 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII.

week after that defeat, Kaepernick headed to Duluth, Ga., to work out at CES Performance, which is also where he did conditioning before the 49ers' selected him in the second round of the 2011 draft.

"The neat thing about Colin is he loves the game and wants to be great, and he wants to be great and it's not self-centered. It's about the team," Harbaugh said. "Everything when you watch him train, work out or study the game, you see that love of the game driving him, and it makes him better."
