  • Aug. 31 vs. NORTHWESTERN: The Sonny Dykes era opens vs. a Big Ten opponent coming off just its second 10-win season in 100 years.

  • Sept. 7 vs. PORTLAND STATE: The Vikings of the Football Championship Subdivision are 0-10 all-time vs. current Pac-12 teams, outscored 477-99 in those game.

  • Sept. 14 vs. OHIO STATE: The Bears, who nearly stunned the Buckeyes last season at Columbus, haven't beaten Ohio State since the 1921 Rose Bowl.

  • Sept. 21 BYE

  • Sept. 28 at OREGON: New coach in Eugene, but two returning Heisman Trophy candidates in Marcus Mariota and De'Anthony Thomas.

  • Oct. 5 vs. WASHINGTON STATE: Dykes spent seven seasons honing his craft at Texas Tech under current Cougs coach Mike Leach.

  • Oct. 12 at UCLA: Bears played their best game of 2012 in 43-17 rout of Bruins.

  • Oct. 19 vs. OREGON STATE: The Beavers have won 11 of the past 14 meetings, none more decisively than 62-14 last season.

  • Oct. 26 at WASHINGTON: The Bears get their first look at the refurbished 71,900-seat Husky Stadium.

  • Nov. 2 vs. ARIZONA: The Bears try to contain Ka'Deem Carey, who led the nation with 1,929 rushing yards in 2012.

  • Nov. 9 vs. USC: Cal has dropped nine straight in the series, scoring 10 points or fewer in six of them.

  • Nov. 16 at COLORADO: Dykes will match wits with ex-San Jose State coach Mike MacIntyre, bypassed for the Cal job.

  • Nov. 23: at STANFORD: Among Cal's previous five coaches, only Jeff Tedford in 2002 won his Big Game debut.
