Nebraska 37, Wyoming 34: The Cornhuskers survived two late turnovers to defeat the Cowboys, their nation's-leading 28th straight season-opening win. Ameer Abdullah and Imani Cross each ran for more than 100 yards, Taylor Martinez passed for three touchdowns, and 18th-ranked Nebraska scored on four of five possessions after trailing 14-10 early in the second quarter.
The Cowboys converted two late Nebraska turnovers into touchdowns to pull within 37-34 with 1:32 left. Nebraska recovered the onside kick after Brett Smith's 47-yard TD pass to Robert Herron. Wyoming's defense held, and the Cowboys got the ball back on their 6 with 1:07 to play, but time ran out on them.
Air Force 38, Colgate 13: Backup Jaleel Awini took over at quarterback to lead the Falcons to the home win. Broam Hart and Jon Lee each went over 100 yards and scored twice.
The Falcons relied heavily on their ground game, amassing 409 yards. Lee finished with a career-high 130 yards and Hart added 101, also a career-best, to become the first Air Force tandem to eclipse the 100-yard mark since 2009. Awini was solid in relief of injured starter Kale Pearson, who suffered a right knee injury on a run play late in the second quarter.
Gavin McCarney, the Patriot League's preseason offensive player of the year, was kept pretty much in check, rushing for 35 yards and throwing for 143 along with a score.
USTA 21, New Mexico 13: Eric Soza's 11-yard touchdown pass to David Glasco II capped a 99-yard, fourth-quarter drive that helped the Roadrunners overcome an early 13-0 deficit at New Mexico. It was Glasco's second touchdown on the night for UTSA.
Eastern Illinois 40, San Diego State 19: Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo completed 31 of 46 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Erik Lora as Eastern Illinois beat the Aztecs. Eastern Illinois snapped a 19-19 tie when Taylor Duncan capped a 12-play 75-yard drive with a two-yard TD run with 7:36 left in the third quarter.
