Crick allowed three hits while striking out eight.
The Rawhide strung together three singles in the ninth, but Evan Marzilli was thrown out at home by center fielder Jesus Galindo. After a walk to load the bases, closer Derek Law induced Tom Belza to ground out to end the game.
The Giants' Ricky Oropesa hit a solo home run in the second, and Matt Duffy had an RBI single in the seventh.
Game 3 is Monday in Visalia. First pitch is 6 p.m., and Adalberto Mejia will start for the Giants.
Minnesota transfer Taylor Uhl scored twice as No. 4 Stanford (4-0-1) extended its home unbeaten streak to 70 games with a 3-0 women's soccer win over No. 16 Maryland (4-2) at Cagan Stadium. Uhl, who tied for the nation's lead with 21 goals last year for the Gophers, scored twice off corner kicks on headers. The junior striker has four goals in five games.
Jordan Taylor held off Scott Pruett to win the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Taylor and co-driver Max Angelelli posted their second straight win in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP to take an eight-point lead over the Chip Ganassi Racing's Pruett and Memo Rojas (BMW Riley) with one race remainng. Scott Dixon and fellow IndyCar driver Dario Franchitti finished third in Ganassi's No. 02 BMW Riley at the 2.38-mile course.
