Southern California biopharmaceutical company Amgen has agreed to a multiyear deal to remain the title sponsor of the annual Tour of California cycling race, a person familiar with the deal confirmed.

Event organizers announced Thursday that Amgen would return for 2014 while Champion System has agreed to a three-year deal as one of the race's main sponsors.

The 2014 race is scheduled to be held from May 11-18 but race owner AEG isn't planning to announce the host cities and course direction until the end of the year.

Patricia Ernstrom of the San Jose Sports Authority confirmed San Jose submitted a bid of interest. San Jose is the only city to have played a role in all seven tours that begin in 2006. Turlock and Modesto officials also said they submitted bids but past participants Auburn, Escondido, Livermore, Palmdale and Santa Rosa have opted out for 2014.
