SAN MARTIN -- Stockton native Ricky Barnes, a former Arizona star who turned pro in 2003, is enjoying the home cooking at the Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club.

He received a warm reception from two of his young nephews after shooting a 2-under 69 in the second round to effectively clinch his spot for the weekend. He has a two-round total of 2-under 140.

Barnes, 32, is married to pro beach volleyball player Suzanne Stonebarger, whose side of the family lives in Brentwood.

"This is about as local as I could get right here, about an hour and a half from home," Barnes said. "I just had my foundation event back in Stockton on Monday, so it's always good to be back in Northern California."

Barnes birdied Nos. 7, 11 and 15 after a bogey on the sixth.

"I kind of hit two squirrely shots but salvaged par pretty well and had some good looks coming in and didn't make 'em," Barnes said. "But I had my chances early in the round to get it going, probably 1, 2, 3 under and just never really did it. Steady golf. Nothing too flashy, but the opportunities are there. I could easily shoot 4 or 5 under each day on the weekend."

His first round on Thursday was a bit of a wild ride. Barnes had three birdies and four bogeys on the front side before going 1-under on the back.
