Sabres: Owner Terry Pegula fired general manager Darcy Regier and rookie coach Ron Rolston. Former Sabres captain Pat LaFontaine takes over in the newly created role of president of hockey operations. LaFontaine's first move was hiring Ted Nolan as coach for the rest of the season. Nolan began his NHL coaching career in Buffalo in 1995.

Wild 2, Maple Leafs 1: Zach Parise and Jason Pominville scored in the shootout for Minnesota. Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom left after taking an apparent elbow to the head.
