Freshman Jabari Bird made a tie-breaking 3-pointer with 1:24 left and added two insurance free throws to lead Cal to a 64-60 win over Oakland at Haas Pavilion on Friday.

Bird made his first five 3-pointers and finished with 24 points. Justin Cobbs added 13 points and five assists while Richard Solomon had 11 points and career-high 17 rebounds for the Bears (3-0).

Travis Bader had 21 points for the Grizzlies but missed two 3-pointers in the final 61 seconds. Oakland (0-3) played without its second-leading scorer Duke Mondy.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee 64, San Jose State 61: Rashad Muhammad had 17 points off the bench, but 3-point attempts by Muhammad and Devante Wilson in the final 6 seconds fell short as the Spartans (0-2) lost to the Panthers (2-1) at the NIU Invitational in DeKalb, Ill. San Jose State is still seeking its first victory under new coach Dave Wojcik.

Nevada 92, USF 90: Deonte Burton had 31 points and the visiting Wolf Pack (2-1) prevailed over the Dons (2-1). Nevada's D.J. Fenner missed both free throw tries with 9 seconds left, but USF couldn't capitalize. Cody Doolin had 33 points for the Dons as WCC teams are 23-2 to start the year.

Michigan State 62, Columbia 53: Adreian Payne had 26 points and the No. 2 Spartans (3-0) avoided a stunning upset against the visiting Lions (1-2).

Louisville 99, Cornell 54: Kevin Ware scored five points in 13 minutes as the No. 3 Cardinals (3-0) posted their 19th straight win by beating the Big Red (0-4). Ware shattered his leg during last season's Midwest Regional final. He played in an exhibition this season, then sat out the first two games.

George Washington 75 Cal 72: Megan Nipe scored 31 points and Danni Jackson made a 3-pointer with 3:11 left to put the host Colonials (2-0) ahead to stay against the No. 10 Bears (1-2). Reshanda Gray scored a career-high 24 points and Brittany Boyd added 17 points and 11 rebounds for Cal. But Boyd and Afure Jemerigbe missed 3-point attempts in the final seconds. Also, Cal's Courtney Range was twice called for offensive fouls in the final minute.

Stanford 86, Cal Poly 51: Senior Chiney Ogwumike had a career-high 36 points, and the No. 3 Cardinal (2-1) routed the Mustangs (0-3) at Maples Pavilion. Tara VanDerveer, in her 28th season at Stanford and 35th coaching overall, has 896 wins.

Connecticut 72, Maryland 55: Breanna Stewart scored 26 points, and the top-ranked Huskies (3-0) won at the No. 8 Terrapins (2-1).

UC Riverside 105, San Jose State 74: Ta'Rea had 22 points, but the host Spartans (1-2) fell to the Highlanders (1-2).
