David Kravish had 19 points and 15 rebounds as Cal beat Arkansas 85-77 on Monday in the opening game of the Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.

Ricky Kreklow scored 17 points off the bench, and three others scored in double digits for the Golden Bears (5-0).

Arkansas led only twice -- once in the third minute of play and again at 35-34 after Michael Qualls made a 3-pointer to open the second half. The Bears responded with a 13-4 run in less than three minutes.

Qualls led Arkansas (3-1) with 21 points.

Cal advanced to the semifinals, where it will meet No. 8 Syracuse on Tuesday at 4 p.m. (ESPN). The Orange eliminated the Bears in the third round of the NCAA tournament last season.

Freshman Jabari Bird led the Bears in scoring for most of the game before finishing with 15 points. Justin Cobbs also scored 15, and Richard Solomon scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Stanford 86, Houston 76: Dwight Powell and Anthony Brown each scored 20 points to lead the Cardinal past the Cougars in the semifinals of the Progressive Legends Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Josh Huestis had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Stanford, which shot 66.7 percent from the field (18 of 27) in the second half after the teams were tied at 32 at intermission.

The Cardinal (5-1) will play Pittsburgh, which beat Texas Tech 76-53, in the championship game Tuesday at Barclays Center (6:30 p.m., ESPNU).

TaShawn Thomas had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Cougars (5-1).

Dayton 84, Gonzaga 79: Jordan Sibert scored 23 points, Dyshawn Pierre hit four free throws with less than 30 seconds left, and the Flyers (5-0) rallied to knock off the No. 11 Bulldogs (4-1) in the Maui Invitational. Gonzaga led by as many as 16 in the first half. Kevin Pangos led the Bulldogs with 27 points.

Syracuse 75, Minnesota 67: C.J. Fair scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds as the No. 8 Orange (5-0) held off the Gophers (5-1) in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

Kentucky 68, Cleveland State 61: Andrew Harrison's three-point play broke a 57-all tie before twin brother Aaron followed with a 3-pointer with 1:20 remaining, helping the No. 3 Wildcats (5-1) escape the stubborn Vikings (3-3) in Lexington, Ky. Kentucky trailed 54-44 with 7:41 remaining.

Arizona State 79, Marquette 77: Jahii Carson scored 23 points and Jordan Bachynski swatted Derrick Wilson's runner at the buzzer for his seventh block, helping the Sun Devils (6-0) knock off the No. 25 Golden Eagles (3-2) in Tempe, Ariz.

Poll: Michigan State won three games last week and remains a runaway No. 1 in The Associated Press' college basketball poll. The Spartans (6-0) held the top spot for a second straight week by receiving 56 first-place votes Monday from the 65-member national media poll.

Kansas drew eight first-place votes and remains second. Kentucky and Arizona moved up one spot each to third and fourth.

Women

Naismith list: Stanford's Chiney Ogwumike and Cal's Brittany Boyd and Gennifer Brandon were named to the Naismith Trophy Top-50 List, the Atlanta Tip-Off Club announced. Also named was Washington's Jazmine Davis, from San Jose.
