Taylor Braun scored 21 points, with 19 coming from the free throw line, as North Dakota State defeated Santa Clara 91-85 on Friday night in the Cable Car Classic at Leavey Center.

Brandon Clark scored 32 points on 10-of-13 shooting for the Broncos (2-3), who will play Rice in the consolation game Saturday at 6 p.m.

Rider, which defeated the Owls 97-93 in overtime in the first game, faces North Dakota State (3-3) at 8:30 for the title.

Braun was just 1 of 9 on field goal attempts but was 19 for 19 on free throws.

  • The Broncos announced they will compete in the 2014 Old Spice Classic over Thanksgiving weekend in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The eight-team field will be headed by The Associated Press' current No. 1 and No. 2 teams, Michigan State and Kansas, and also will include Georgia Tech, Marquette, Rider, Tennessee and Xavier.

    Arizona 72, Duke 66: Nick Johnson scored all but two of his 15 points in the second half and the No. 4 Wildcats (7-0) beat the No. 6 Blue Devils (6-2) in the championship game of the NIT Season Tip-Off in New York. Arizona freshman Aaron Gordon (San Jose) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds and came up big late with a dunk on an alley-oop pass and then fed Rondae Hollis-Jefferson for a dunk less than a minute later to give the Wildcats a 61-51 lead with 3:59 to play.

    Villanova 63, Kansas 59: Ryan Arcidiacono's 3-pointer with 10.1 seconds left put the Wildcats (6-0) on top for good in an upset of the No. 2 Jayhawks (5-1) in the semifinals of the Battle 4 Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas. Arcidiacono had missed all five of his previous shots but made the only field goal for the Wildcats in the final 7 minutes.

    USF 72, Vermont 61: Cole Dickerson scored 28 points as the Dons (5-3) beat the Catamounts (2-6) in the Golden Gate Challenge at Memorial Gym. Avry Holmes and Kruize Pinkins added 13 points apiece for USF.

    Michigan State 98, Mount St. Mary's 65: Keith Appling scored 17 points and Denzel Valentine and Travis Trice added 15 apiece to power the No. 1 Spartans (7-0) over the Mountaineers (2-6).

    Oklahoma State 69, Butler 67: Marcus Smart scored 17 points as the No. 5 Cowboys (7-0) survived a major scare in a win over the Bulldogs (5-1) in an Old Spice Classic semifinal in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Butler's Elijah Brown had his last second 3-point shot blocked.

    UCLA 95, Northwestern 79: Jordan Adams, Zach LaVine and Bryce Alford scored 18 points apiece to lead the No. 19 Bruins (7-0) over the Wildcats (4-4) in the final round of the Las Vegas Invitational.

    San Diego State 86, Creighton 80: Xavier Thames scored six of his 26 points in the final 1:18, J.J. O'Brien had 15 points and seven rebounds, and the Aztecs (4-1) overcame 30 points by Doug McDermott to upset the 20th-ranked Bluejays (5-1) in the second round of the Wooden Legacy at Cal State Fullerton.

    Cal 84, Wake Forest 61: Justine Hartman scored 16 points and Afure Jemerigbe added 15 with six rebounds as the 20th-ranked Bears (4-2) beat the Demon Deacons (4-3) in the Nugget Classic in Reno. Cal, which had six players in double figures, will play Idaho for the tournament title Saturday.

    Saint Mary's 86, Alabama 76: Lauren Nicholson scored a career-high 28 points and Jackie Nared added 26 as the Gaels (6-0) tied the best start in school history by beating the Crimson Tide (2-4) in the Saint Mary's Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic in Moraga.

    Santa Clara 66, Cal State Northridge 61: Ruta Zurauskyte scored 13 points, Marie Bertholdt had 12 and Jo Paine 11 as the Broncos (2-4) beat the host Matadors (2-4) in the Radisson Chatsworth Thanksgiving Classic.

    USF 69, UC Davis 67: Rachel Howard scored 17 points to lead the Dons (2-3) over the Aggies (1-4) in the Cal Poly Holiday Beach Classic in San Luis Obispo.
