Assistant coach Mike Sanford is leaving Stanford to become the offensive coordinator at Boise State, his alma mater.
Sanford, who oversees the Cardinal's quarterbacks and receivers and is the recruiting coordinator, is expected to remain on staff through the Rose Bowl against Michigan State on Jan. 1.
"I'm extremely excited about the opportunity to return to my alma mater," Sanford said in a statement released by Boise State on Wednesday.
Former assistant Bryan Harsin is the new Broncos coach. He replaced Chris Petersen, who left for Washington.
Also, Stanford guard David Yankey, linebacker Trent Murphy and kick returner Ty Montgomery were named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America Team. With just one official All-America team set to be released, Yankey has a chance to be a unanimous selection again.
The Earthquakes selected former Chicago right fullback Shaun Francis, 27, in the MLS re-entry draft in anticipation of losing 2012 All-Star Steven Beitashour, who is seeking to play in Europe. The Quakes also picked former New York left fullback Brandon Barklage, 27, a day after trading defender Justin Morrow to Toronto FC for allocation money. Two former Earthquakes also were taken -- defender Nana Attakora by D.C. United and midfielder Mehdi Ballouchy by Vancouver.
