DL: BYRON BAKER, VALLEY CHRISTIAN

Class: Senior. Height: 6-2. Weight: 210.

The most valuable defensive lineman in the West Catholic Athletic League helped lead a team that held four opponents to 10 points or fewer and shut down top-seeded and high-powered Terra Nova in the first round of the CCS Open Division playoffs.

DL: DANIEL LAVULO, SERRA

Class: Senior. Height: 5-11. Weight: 215.

Hard to block with a relentless approach, Lavulo, a co-captain, was in on 60 tackles, 31 solo, and had four sacks for 17 yards in losses to help lead Serra to a CCS Open Division championship. He had his best performances against Mitty in the games that earned Serra a CCS Open Division title and a share of the WCAL championship.

DL: DANIEL MENDOZA, ARCHBISHOP MITTY

Class: Senior. Height: 6-1. Weight: 265.

Mendoza, a first-team All-WCAL player, anchored a line that helped the Monarchs win a share of the league championship and reach the CCS Open Division title game. He also blocked a game-ending field-goal try to beat St. Francis 13-12.

LB: BEN BURR-KIRVEN, SACRED HEART PREP

Class: Junior. Height: 6-1. Weight: 200.

The Mercury News player of the year led the Gators to the Division III state championship game, finishing with 200 tackles, an average of 13.3 per game. He also averaged 9.2 yards per carry as a running back. He had 16 tackles in the state final.

LB: SIONE FINEFEUIAKI, WILCOX

Class: Senior. Height: 6-0. Weight: 225.

Finefeuiaki, the defensive MVP in the SCVAL De Anza Division, led the Chargers in tackles with 99 and sacks with seven. He also had two interceptions and rushed for 896 yards and 10 touchdowns, helping Wilcox win a share of the division championship.

LB: NICK PIEROTTI, TERRA NOVA

Class: Senior. Height: 6-3. Weight: 235.

Pierotti, the co-defensive player of the year in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division, led the CCS in tackles per game (16.9). He had four interceptions, forced four fumbles and blocked two punts. He also had 34 receptions for 458 yards and five touchdowns.

LB: CHANDLER RAMIREZ, ARCHBISHOP MITTY

Class: Senior. Height: 6-1. Weight: 210.

The co-player of the year in the West Catholic Athletic League finished with 121/2 sacks to help lead the Monarchs to a share of the league championship and to the CCS Open Division final. He also was a huge part of Mitty's running game as a hard-hitting fullback.

DB: LANDON BATY, ST. FRANCIS

Class: Senior. Height: 5-11. Weight: 190.

Baty, a first-team All-Mercury News selection last season, was named the WCAL's co-most valuable defensive back as he helped lead St. Francis to the CCS Division II championship game.

DB: HAKEEM MAYS, WILLOW GLEN

Class: Junior. Height: 5-11. Weight: 170.

One of the top running backs in the section with 2,129 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns, Mays also stood out on defense -- 35 tackles and five interceptions.

DB: DREW MOUNT, ARCHBISHOP MITTY

Class: Senior. Height: 5-10. Weight: 195.

The West Catholic Athletic League's co-most valuable defensive back had a team-leading six interceptions and finished second on the team with 72 tackles, helping the Monarchs to an 11-win season.

DB: COREY OLIVET, LOS GATOS

Class: Senior. Height: 5-10. Weight: 160.

Olivet, most outstanding defensive back in the SCVAL De Anza Division, led Los Gatos with six interceptions and did so much more, including two long touchdown catches to help lift the Wildcats past St. Francis in the CCS Division II final.

UTILITY: HAMILTON ANOA'I, SERRA

Class: Senior. Height: 6-2. Weight: 225.

The co-player of the year in the WCAL came back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last season to lead the Padres to the CCS Open Division title. He had 29 catches for 552 yards and 10 TDs.

KICK RETURNER: JOSH HOLMAN, WOODSIDE

Class: Senior. Height: 5-11. Weight: 165.

Holman tied a state record with three kickoff returns for TDs against Capuchino. He averaged 45.2 yards on 15 kick returns and 22.7 yards on seven punt returns. He had 16 TDs, five on kickoff returns.
