Deonte Burton scored 18 points and A.J. West had 15 as Nevada controlled the second half to open Mountain West Conference play with a 62-50 victory over San Jose State on Wednesday night at the Event Center.

The Wolf Pack (6-8) trailed 26-25 at the half but used a 10-0 run to take a 41-35 lead with 10:32 left in the game. Burton and Cole Huff each had four points in the surge. Michael Perez had a 3 at 5:26 to make it 54-42. It was the only 3 in 12 attempts for Nevada.

Devante Wilson had 18 points and Chris Cunningham scored 10 for the Spartans (6-7), who saw their winning streak snapped at four games.

West, in just his third game since being declared eligible after transferring from a New York junior college, also had nine rebounds. Huff had 10 for a 37-30 advantage. West made 6 of 8 shots.

San Diego State 71, Colorado State 61: Xavier Thames scored 23 points to help the No. 21 Aztecs (11-1, 1-0 Mountain West) hold off the visiting Rams (9-5, 0-1) for their 10th straight win.

Women

Connecticut 77, Central Florida 49: Stefanie Dolson had 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead the No. 1 Huskies (14-0, 1-0 American Athletic Conference) past the Knights (8-5, 1-1) in Orlando, Fla. Dolson hit 11 of 14 shots.

Nevada 101, San Jose State 74: Ta'Rea Cunnigan scored 17 points for the Spartans (6-6), who couldn't keep pace with the Wolf Pack (6-6) in a Mountain West Conference opener in Reno. Danika Sharp paced Nevada with 22 points, including six 3-pointers.
