Among the candidates who have emerged to fill two football coaching vacancies at Cal is former Texas defensive coordinator Greg Robinson.

Coachingsearch.com reported that Robinson interviewed with coach Sonny Dykes for the defensive coordinator job that opened when Andy Buh was demoted last week.

The website said one-time USC defensive backs coach Marvin Sanders and recently fired Cincinnati defensive coordinator Art Kaufman also are believed to be on Dykes' list of candidates. Dykes needs coaches who can handle defensive tackles and defensive backs, one of whom is likely to be the coordinator.

  • Stanford defensive coordinator Derek Mason is a finalist for the coaching job at Vanderbilt, according to a source. He was scheduled to interview Thursday. The vacancy was created when James Franklin left for Penn State.

  • Dalton Schultz, the nation's top rated tight end from Bingham High-South Jordan (Utah), orally committed to Stanford.

  • Cal has added women's sand volleyball as an intercollegiate sport, making its debut March 9 at Pacific. Cal will play its home matches at the Clark Kerr sand volleyball facility. The roster will be made up of players from Cal's indoor volleyball team as well as non-scholarship athletes who play sand volleyball. Women's indoor coach Rich Feller will oversee the program. Cal is one of eight Pac-12 schools to add the program, joining Stanford, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon and Washington.
