Freshman Missy Franklin won three events as the top-ranked Cal women's swimming and diving team cruised 229-69 over Arizona State on Friday at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

In their first dual meet in more than 21/2 months, the Bears claimed at least the top two positions in 10 of 12 races.

Franklin, the darling of the 2012 London Olympics posted a two-second win in the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 7 seconds. She completed the 200 backstroke in 1:57.86 and also claimed the 500 freestyle in 4:50.90.

Other multiple winners were Cindy Tran (100 backstroke, 100 butterfly), Marina Garcia (100 and 200 breaststrokes) and Celina Li (200 butterfly, 400 IM).

The No. 4 Stanford women's team beat No. 10 Arizona 158-137 at Avery Aquatics Center, as Felicia Lee (100 backstroke, 100 butterfly) and Katie Olsen (100 and 200 breaststrokes) each won two events.

No. 4 Cal (4-0, 1-0 Pac-12) won 12 races en route to a 178-113 men's rout over Arizona State. The host Bears got two wins each from Josh Prenot (100 breaststroke, 400 IM) and Ryan Murphy (100 and 200 freestyles).

David Nolan (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Danny Thomson (500 and 1,000 freestyle) and diver Kristian Ipsen each won two events to help the Stanford men's team beat visiting Arizona 185-113 in a Pac-12 opener.

  • The No. 4 Cal women's water polo team (4-0) routed Concordia 29-2 and Fresno Pacific 30-1 in its first two games of the UC Santa Barbara Invitational. Freshman Dora Antal had four goals in each match.

  • Seventh-ranked BYU (5-2, 5-0 MPSF) rallied to a 25-13, 21-25, 12-25, 25-23, 15-12 men's volleyball win over No. 6 Stanford in Provo, Utah.

  • Lynn Chi's 6-1, 7-6 (2) win over Daniella Silva clinched No. 8 Cal's 4-0 women's victory over Santa Clara at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Both teams were playing their season opener.

    No. 1 Stanford cruised past UC Davis 7-0 in the season opener for both teams at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. It was win No. 900 for the Cardinal program.

  • The No. 16 Cal men's tennis team (2-0) beat Alabama 4-2 in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Malibu. Andre Goransson beat Saxon Buehning 6-4, 4-6, 6-5 (7-3) to clinch it.

  • Freshman Charlie Owens won the all-around, but the No. 25 Cal women's gymnastics team (3-4, 0-3 Pac-12) lost 196.000-195.350 to No. 23 Arizona State (5-1, 2-0) in Tempe.

    Earthquakes Chris Wondolowski and Clarence Goodson made the final cut of 22 players as the U.S. team will prepare for a Feb. 1 game against South Korea in Carson.
