De La Salle's Larry Allen III has committed to Harvard, picking the Ivy League despite offers from multiple Pac-12 schools, including Cal.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound offensive guard was an All-East Bay first-team selection after helping the Spartans reach a fourth consecutive Open Division state final in December.
He held offers from Oregon State, Arizona State, Cal, Boise State, Hawaii and a handful of other schools, but recently narrowed his choices down to Harvard and Princeton.
"When I went to visit Harvard there was something about the campus, the coaches, the team in general and the whole history behind Harvard," said Allen, who is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee by the same name.
He made his commitment last weekend after a recent visit.
"Academics are definitely very important to me," Allen said. "I want to be an engineer and their program is amazing."
