No. 10 Arizona scored eight times in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to an 18-12 softball victory over No. 24 Stanford on Friday night.

The Cardinal (24-12, 1-6 Pac-12) led 9-8 until the Wildcats' big inning.

Loser pitcher Madi Schreyer's line was 14 runs (12 earned) and 14 hits in 51/3 innings.

Kylie Sorenson had three hits and four RBIs, and Cardinal teammate Erin Ashby had two hits, including a home run.

Cheyenne Cordes hit a two-run homer, but Cal (20-12, 3-2 Pac-12) lost 7-2 to No. 7 Arizona State at Levine-Fricke Field.

  • The Cal baseball team (14-13, 3-4 Pac-12) had just five hits against Joe Pistorese in Washington State's 3-0 home win. Designated hitter Devon Rodriguez had two hits for the Bears.

    Ben Wetzler limited Stanford (10-12, 3-4 Pac-12) to just four hits in No. 6 Oregon State's 4-1 home victory. Loser Brett Hanewich allowed four runs and five hits in 51/3 innings.

    Pepperdine scored five runs in the final three innings to beat Saint Mary's 6-2 at Louis Guisto Field. Connor Hornsby led the Gaels (13-15, 5-2 WCC) with a 3-for-4 day.

  • Stanford's Kristyn Williams ran the fastest collegiate 400 meters in the nation this year and teammate Brianna Bain had the No. 2 javelin throw at the 39th Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

    Williams finished in 52.70 seconds, the No. 3 time in school history. Bain had a throw of 180 feet, 5 inches, winning by 19 feet.

  • Cal sophomore Carly Childs matched her career-best 18-hole score with a 2-under 70 at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The Bears were sixth at 3-over 291 -- seven shots behind leader Washington. Stanford was at 295. The Cardinal's Lauren Kim and Casey Danielson shot 71s, three strokes behind co-leaders Katelyn Dambaugh of South Carolina and Ani Gulugian of UCLA.

  • Brian Cook and Conrad Kaminski had eight kills each, and the Stanford men's volleyball team (18-7) posted a 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 home win over Cal Baptist on senior night.

  • Stanford (1-6) cruised 4-1 past Cal (1-3) in sand volleyball. Playing at No. 1, the Cardinal's Brittany Howard and Carly Wopat beat Joan Caloiaro and Adrienne Gehan 22-20, 21-19.

    Nikki Gombar and Maddy Kerr beat Madi Bugg and Kelsey Humphreys 22-20, 21-15 for the Bears' lone point.

  • One of the biggest rugby matches of the season will take place in Moraga on Saturday when No. 4 Saint Mary's hosts No. 1 Cal at 1 p.m. on Pat Vincent Field. Admission is $10.

    Horse racing

    Lady Fifty Two is the morning line favorite in the $30,000 feature at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday. Lady Fifty Two is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and owned by Hollendorfer, Mark DeDomenico and George Todaro. She'll be ridden by Russell Baze in the six-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies.

    The track will simulcast two Kentucky Derby preps -- the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct (N.Y.) and the Santa Anita Derby.
