Rio Ruiz hit a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally the Lancaster JetHawks to a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Giants in a California League game Monday night.

The Giants were one out from a win when reliever Tyler Mizenko issued consecutive walks to Teoscar Hernandez and Carlos Correa, setting up Ruiz's walk-off hit.

Joe Biagini pitched six scoreless inning for San Jose, allowing two hits and two walks and striking out four.

Harley Dow, a former 49ers and San Jose State lineman who later had a long, successful stint as golf coach at San Jose City College, has died. He was 88. Dow, who died March 25 in Poway, was drafted by the 49ers in the 11th round in 1950. He played just one season in the NFL.

Santa Clara's Annie Freman is in third place and the Broncos fourth among 20 teams after two rounds of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic golf tournament at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. Freman's 146 total places her five shots behind leader Camille Orito of New Mexico State.

  • The Santa Clara men's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of the 21-team Wyoming Cowboy Classic at Talking Stick-North Course in Scottsdale, Ariz. Gio Gandionco is the Broncos' top individual. His 141 total is eight shots behind leader Sean Walsh of Gonzaga.

  • Hideki Nakada, a goalkeeper at USF and in Japan's J-League, has joined the Stanford women's soccer coaching staff, head coach Paul Ratcliffe announced.
