Neither contract negotiations nor a Miami police investigation kept Colin Kaepernick from joining his 49ers teammates for Monday's start of the offseason training program.

Kaepernick is entering his fourth season and also the final year of his rookie contract. Talks on an extension reportedly have been tabled while Miami police finish investigating an incident where they were summoned to remove an unidentified woman from Kaepernick's apartment.

Players are not required to participate in the offseason program, aside from a three-day minicamp June 17-19.

Linebacker Aldon Smith, just over a week after getting arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of making a false bomb threat, was among those present at Monday's workouts, Comcast SportsNet reported.

Not in attendance Monday was running back LaMichael James, who is training in his native Texas amid reports he might get traded.

Cornerback Chris Culliver, who is facing hit-and-run and weapon charges, was seen among those working out in a photo slideshow on the 49ers' website, as was linebacker NaVorro Bowman, who is recovering from knee surgery.

Linebacker Michael Wilhoite, Bowman's potential replacement for the start of the season, was able to work out once he signed the one-year tender he received as an exclusive rights free agent. Bowman is not expected back until midseason.

The 49ers would not confirm who else showed for the voluntary workout, and there was no media access Monday.

  • Quarterback Alex Smith confirmed that his agent, Tom Condon, has been talking with the Kansas City Chiefs about a new deal. Smith is due to make $7.5 million in the final year of a contract he signed in 2012, when he was still a member of the 49ers.

Chiefs general manager John Dorsey and coach Andy Reid have both expressed their desire to keep Smith in Kansas City.

  • The Chicago Bears have agreed to a one-year contract with former 49ers and Washington Redskins receiver Josh Morgan.

  • Josh Freeman officially joined the New York Giants, signing to be a backup quarterback to Eli Manning. Freeman was released by Tampa Bay early last season and spent the rest of 2013 with Minnesota.

  • The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says former NFL and USC receiver Keyshawn Johnson has been arrested after a report of a domestic dispute. A Sheriff's Department statement says deputies responded to a residence in Calabasas at 12:48 a.m. Monday and determined the resident and his ex-girlfriend were involved in a domestic dispute, and the resident was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery. The department subsequently identified the resident as Johnson, who posted bond and was released.

The University of New Mexico says running back Crusoe Gongbay is facing rape charges and has been suspended from the team. University officials issued a statement saying the 20-year-old turned himself in to campus police.

Veronica Feilbert (68) and Brogan McKinnon (70) shot the low two rounds of the day to earn the final two spots in the field for the inaugural Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic. The tournament, featuring a $1.8 million purse, will be played Thursday-Sunday at Lake Merced Golf Club. The 144-player field features 14 of the top 15 players in the world rankings, as the LPGA returns to the Bay Area for the first time since 2010.
