Warriors guard Stephen Curry was three points out of the lead after the first round of the American Century Championship on Friday at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Chad Pfeifer, who lost his left leg above the knee serving in Iraq, earned a Stableford total of 24 points to take a one-point lead over Jeremy Roenick. Mark Rypien was third at 22. Annika Sorenstam finished 1 under for a Stableford total of 21 points in her first competitive round since retirement. She was tied with Curry and Joe Sakic.

Pfeifer, who is attempting to become the first professional tournament golfer to use a prosthetic limb, opened with a bogey on his first hole, but his 18-hole score was 70.

  • San Jose's Shotaro Ban shot a 5-over 77 and was tied for 20th at the 108th Southern Amateur in Oolteway, Tennessee. The Cal golfer was at 4-over 220 -- 12 shots behind leader Beau Hossler (70).

    NBA

    Aaron Craft led the Warriors with 10 points, but Golden State fell to Milwaukee 79-74 to finish the Las Vegas Pro Summer League at 2-3. The Warriors trailed 45-21 at halftime. Jabari Parker, the No. 2 overall draft pick, had 20 points and 15 rebounds for the Bucks. Former Stanford star Dwight Powell had 15 points and nine rebounds in Cleveland's 95-90 victory over Miami.

    San Jose starter Kendry Flores allowed just two singles over six scoreless innings, and the Giants posted a 3-0 win over Rancho Cucamonga at Municipal Stadium. Relievers Tyler Rogers, Mason McVay and Bryce Bandilla completed the shutout. Brandon Bednar's RBI double keyed a two-run fourth for San Jose.

    Swimming

    Cal's Missy Franklin won two events at the Los Angeles Invitational -- the 100-meter freestyle in 54.52 seconds and 200 backstroke in 2:01.21. Ex-Cal star Natalie Coughlin was fifth in the 100 free in 55.36.
