Cal's Missy Franklin placed third in the women's 100-meter backstroke at the Pan Pacific championships in Gold Coast Australia.
Franklin, who won that event at the 2012 Olympics, was tentative with her start and finished in 1 minute, 0.30 seconds on Thursday night. Australian Emily Seebohm won in a meet record 58.84 seconds.
Franklin, who suffered from back spasms Tuesday, didn't qualify for the A final of the 200 freestyle. But she did post the second-fastest time of the night by winning the B final in 1:56.04.
"I'm proud of myself. It has nothing to do with my places. Just fighting back," Franklin said.
With no Franklin in the 200 free A final, Katie Ledecky won in a meet record 1:55.74. Ledecky also won the 800 free in 8:11.35.
Ryosyuke Irie won the men's 100 backstroke in 53.02, while Cal's Ryan Murphy was third in 53.27.
