Stanford senior Erica McLain, a contender to make the U.S. Olympic team in the triple jump, on Friday became the first woman to win three long jump titles at the Pac-10 Conference track and field championships in Tempe, Ariz.

McLain leaped 21 feet, 4 inches to regain the title she won in 2005 and '06 before finishing second last year. She tries today to win an unprecedented fourth straight Pac-10 crown in the triple jump.

Cal sophomore Ryan Young finished second in the javelin with a throw of 235-2 that missed the school record by just 10 inches. Teammate Martin Maric was fourth at 220-5.

Stanford's Graeme Hoste was second in the pole vault (17-1) and teammate Lindsay Allen, formerly of College Park High, was second in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:20.06). Melissa Yunghans of Stanford was third in the shot put (53-101/4).

Cal sophomore Kimyon Broom was the fastest qualifier for today's final in the 100 hurdles, running a school-record time of 13.17. She shattered the old Cal mark of 13.43, set by Osarhiemen Omwanghe in 2004, and met the "B" standard for the Olympic trials.

Senior Alysia Johnson of Cal, the defending NCAA champion in the 800, easily moved through to the final as the top qualifier (2:05.73).

Freshman Cherrelle Garrett, a Mt. Eden High grad, had the fastest time in the 100 prelims with a time of 11.44 that ranks No. 2 on the Cal's all-time list. Richmond native Charonda Williams, a junior at Arizona State, ran second (11.47) in the 100 prelims.
