SANTA CRUZ -- The bassist for the band Smash Mouth, who is on probation for an assault on his wife in 2012, is slated for a probation violation hearing Friday in Santa Cruz County Superior Court.

Paul DeLilse, 41, will appear before Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge Stephen Siegel for an alleged probation violation on a restraining order.

DeLilse, of San Jose, was convicted of a misdemeanor battery charge August 2012 stemming from a March 2012 incident.

DeLilse inflicted corporal punishment on his wife, Mary, and violated a restraining order placed on him March 3, 2012, according to court documents.

Charges of felony corporal punishment and a misdemeanor restraining order violation were filed April 25 and a warrant was issued April 30, according to court documents.

DeLilse was taken into custody and posted $10,000 bail May 3, records show.

In August 2012, DeLilse struck a deal with prosecutors and pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of misdemeanor battery.

He was ordered to pay a fine of $590 and placed on 36 months probation. The second charge was dismissed in the interest of justice. He was also ordered to complete 52 sessions for a battery, do 200 hours of community service and provide notice to the court each time he traveled outside of the state.

He has completed 44 of his 52 therapy sessions for battery, according to court documents.

The latest restraining order violation charge was filed Friday by the county probation officers, though documents don't specify when the alleged violation happened.
