There are scores of Bay Area artists scheduled to perform at this year's South by Southwest (SXSW), which runs March 11-16 in lovely Austin, Texas.
This strong showing -- at an event that draws both top headliners and up-and-coming acts from around the globe -- is a definite sign that the Bay Area music scene is alive and well in 2014.
In preview of the event, we are doing a series of stories on some of the best Bay Area acts set to perform at the 2014 SXSW.
We'll kick things off by spotlighting Oakland hip-hop star G-Eazy and San Francisco R&B crooner 8th Grader.
G-Eazy -- The buzz is deafening. Everyone seems to be talking about this Oakland rapper, whose career is absolutely skyrocketing right now. He's already popular enough to sell out San Francisco's mighty Fillmore, where he performs on Wednesday night. Yet, his fan base could increase exponentially over the next few months. Fortunately, his talent is every bit as big as the buzz.

8th Grader -- Jayson Martinovich (aka, 8th Grader) is blessed with a memorable, breathy tenor, which he uses to put a fresh spin on neo-soul and R&B. The San Francisco singer-songwriter should appeal to fans of Frank Ocean and, especially, Prince. He's particularly handy with a slow jam, so put him on the playlist for your next date night.
