Richard Nixon shared Thomas Jefferson's appreciation of Château Margaux, but unlike Jefferson, who once gifted a friend 120 bottles of the 1784 vintage, Nixon clung to his Bordeaux. In fact, when Nixon entertained congressmen aboard the presidential yacht Sequoia, he served them a $6 wine and instructed stewards to fill his glass from a $30 bottle of 1966 Château Margaux wrapped in a towel, according to Watergate reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. We couldn't believe it either. Margaux for $30? Sheesh.
