KEY ROSE BOWL MATCHUPS Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan vs. Wisconsin linebackers Mike Taylor and Chris Borland -- The goal for Hogan is no different from during his four previous (victorious) starts: Avoid turnovers, hit open receivers and run when the opportunities arise. ... Borland and Taylor have combined for 25 tackles for loss and will attempt to disrupt Hogan's rhythm, forcing him into poor decisions. Stanford inside linebackers Shayne Skov and A.J. Tarpley vs. Wisconsin's offensive line -- The key to the Badgers' punishing ground game is a line that averages 325 pounds per man and makes mincemeat of linebackers who dare venture into running lanes. ... Skov (242 pounds) and Tarpley (238) must hold their ground and take the proper angles when trying to corral Wisconsin tailback Montee Ball. ... They'll need help from their front three, who must occupy as many blockers as possible for as long as possible. Stanford receiver Drew Terrell vs. Wisconsin cornerback Devin Smith -- The Cardinal needs production from at least one receiver, and Terrell is the best bet: He led all Stanford wideouts with 31 catches during the regular season and made the game-tying catch in the Pac-12 title game. ... Smith is a first-rate ball-hawker, with a team-high four interceptions and 12 pass breakups. His counterpart on the other side, Marcus Cromartie, will be matched against Terrell, as well.
