Rebecca Durham is tied for eighth to lead Stanford after shooting an even-par 72. Angela King was 1-over 73 to tie for 25th spot. Mari Chun was 3-over 75 to tie for 42nd.
SOFTBALL
Arizona 2, Cal 0: Taryne Mowatt pitched a two-hitter to propel the 11th-ranked Wildcats to a Pac-10 win at home over No. 23 Cal (40-22, 7-12). Marissa Drewrey, the second of three Cal pitchers, was charged with the loss.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Alcorn State: Former Golden State Warrior Larry Smith signed a four-year contract to become the new coach at his alma mater, Alcorn State, the Natchez Democrat (Miss.) reported.
Smith, who spent the first nine years of his 13-year NBA career with the Warriors, played at Alcorn State from 1976-80.
Smith spent last season as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA. He also served as an assistant for the Rockets, where he was on the bench when Houston won two NBA titles (1994 and '95).
West Virginia: School officials
Missouri: Junior forward Leo Lyons announced that he has withdrawn his name from the 2008 NBA draft and will return to play for the Tigers.
Lyons made the decision on after meeting with coach Mike Anderson and his staff, as well as family members and teammates throughout the last two weeks.
FOOTBALL
Notre Dame-ASU: Notre Dame and Arizona State will play in the new $1 billion home of the Dallas Cowboys in 2013 on Oct. 5, 2013, at the facility in Arlington, Texas.
NCAA
Alabama State: The NCAA has accused Alabama State of 24 rules violations, alleging widespread use of ineligible players, grade changes and recruiting misdeeds and charging the school with lack of institutional control.
The university has until June 27 to respond and culminated a nearly five-year investigation.
Florida International: The university was placed on four years' probation by the NCAA and will lose scholarships for a variety of infractions.
More than 40 athletes who competed for the school from the 2002-03 through the 2006-07 academic years violated rules.
