Pulitzer Prize-winning poets Gary Snyder and Robert Hass will headline the 18th annual Watershed Eco-Poetry Festival from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at the farmers market at Market Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park, Center Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Berkeley.
"Stand Up for the Earth" is the theme of the free event, which will also feature poets and environmental authors Brenda Hillman, Matthew Zapruder, Brian Teare, Ann Fisher-Wirth, giovanni singleton, Jennifer Elise Foerster, Barbara Jane Reyes, Mary Mackey, John Shoptaw, Alan Soldofsky, California Poets in the Schools, River of Words, K-12 students from Poetry Inside Out and jazz by the Barry Finnerty Trio.
A morning Strawberry Creek Walk will open the event, leaving from the UC Berkeley campus near Oxford and Center streets at 10 a.m. and tracing the path of the creek on the way to Civic Center and events on the main stage.
At the park there will be "waterchute" shade tents, and chairs and recycled carpet squares will be available for seating. There will also be interactive exhibits and a "a Creek Poem installation over the footprint of Strawberry Creek" in the park.
